A present condition may be expressed by a potential optative in the protasis, and a present or past condition by a potential indicative ; as εἴπερ ἄλλῳ τῳ ἀνθρώπων πειθοίμην ἂν, καὶ σοὶ πείθομαι, if (it is true that) I would trust any one of mankind, I trust you, Plat. Prot. 329 B ; εἰ τοῦτο ἰσχυρὸν ἦν ἂν τούτῳ τεκμήριον, κἀμοὶ γενέσθω τεκμήριον, ὅτι, κ.τ.λ., if (it is true that) this would have been a strong proof for him (if he had used it), so let it be a proof for me, that, etc., Dem. xlix 58.
