§665.

§666. ⇒

英語原文

1. Indirect questions may be introduced by εἰ, whether (rarely by ἆρα), and also by interrogative pronouns, pronominal adjectives, and adverbs, and by most relatives. Alternative indirect questions may be introduce by πότερον (πότερα) … ἤ, εἴτε … εἴτε, εἰ … ἤ, εἰ … εἴτε, whether … or.

Ἐάν or ἤν never means whether (see 493).

2. In Homer single indirect questions (when they are not introduced by interrogatives) generally have or εἰ, whether ; and alternative questions have ἤ (ἠέ) … ἦ (ἦε), sometimes εἴ τε … εἴ τε, whether … or.

Bekker never allows εἰ or εἴ τε in indirect questions in Homer, always writing or ἤ τε, without regard to the Mss.

3. Indirect questions follow the same principles as indirect quotations with ὅτι or ὡς, in regard to their moods and tenses. (For examples, see 669.)
